The act of animals cutting off parts of themselves for their own survival and such phenomenon is called autotomy.
The best known example of autotomy is the lizard cutting its tail. They cut off their tails when they're in danger, and after a certain period of time, they grow up anew.
Including myself, when ceramicists use clay to make our work, sometimes it's better we need to be thrown away as a whole for our complete work, or we need to cut and edit certain parts.
I've transformed these pieces of clay that have been cut and left behind, and I've planted clay that is different from the clay that was originally used. Through these processes, broken or abandoned clay is brought back to life having new form and function.
