"Ultimately, I concluded there are things that, although difficult to explain, are ‘undeniable in their existence’.

A photograph expresses the complexly intertwined emotions one has when capturing a certain moment, but it also exists separately, independent of both the individual and time. It is in this that I feel liberated from those emotions. I didn’t realize it at the time, but through that liberation, my life continued on.

“결국 나는 ‘설명하기 어렵더라도 존재하는 것들이 있었다’ 는 결론을 짓게 된다. 
복잡하게 얽혀있는 감정들은 사진 한 장의 순간에 담겨 나와 같지만 또 독립된 존재가 되었다. 
이것은 감정들로부터 해방되는 순간이다. 
당시엔 인지 하지 못했으나 이로 인해 나의 삶은 진행이 되었다. 이 사진들이 증언하고 있다.”

is a selection of images during a 9-year period featuring photos from various projects. Youngchul Kim, in accordance with his exhibition, prepared each image by intentionally removing its title and location, seeking to give the reader and viewer an opportunity to interpret the image as they wish. He views this approach as an extension of his work. The appreciation and interpretation of the viewers adds and builds up the images and adds vitality to the work, making it a constantly evolving piece.

FEELING BEFORE SEEING 은 사진작가 김영철이 9년간 작업한 여러 프로젝트 가운데 일부 사진을 선별해 담은 사진집입니다. 
작가는 의도적으로 장소와 시간, 사진의 이름을 표기하지 않았습니다. 보는 사람들이 자신만의 관점을 이미지에 투영해 해석하도록 의도하였습니다. 작가는 이것 또한 작업의 연장선으로 봅니다. 그는 타인의 감상이 개인의 경험으로 제작된 이미지에 쌓여 작품의 생명력이 더해진다고 말합니다.

Youngchul Kim is a SWPA award winning photographer based more recently in Seoul. 
His commissioned projects range from LG, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis, Burberry, LUISAVIAROMA, Dr.Martens and more. His works have been displayed on multiple platforms and different genres ranging from fashion to commercial and fine art. 
The release of his first photo-book comes with his fourth exhibition - following exhibitions with Shinsegae, Galleria, and Canon.

작가 김영철은 런던에서 오랜기간 활동했고, 현재는 서울을 베이스로 활동 중이다. 
LG, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis, Burberry, LUISAVIAROMA, Dr.Martens 등의 
여러 기업 및 매체와 작업 해왔으며, 광고, 패션, 파인아트 등 여러가지 영역을 아우르며 활동해왔다. 
캐논, 신세계, 갤러리아와 함께 개인전을 열었고, 
20년에는 세계 최대 사진 대회 ‘소니 월드 포토그래피 어워드(SWPA)’의 대한민국 내셔널 어워드에서 우승을 하여 영국 런던에서 전시를 한 바 있다. 
22년 1월, 사진책 [FEELING BEFORE SEEING] 을 출간하였고, 동일한 주제의 4번째 전시를 열었다.
